November's New Releases: 4 Films to Watch This Month
Lottie Gibson highlights 4 new cosy films to watch this autumn
As the nights draw in, the autumnal rain starts pouring and the leaves start to fall, what better way to relax than to book yourself that cinema trip and watch a new film. I absolutely love going to the cinema and watching something new, but for me, there is no better way to unwind than by watching a film with characters and plot lines that I know and love. Luckily, this November, 4 films are coming out which will explore the next step in lots of familiar characters’ lives. So without further ado, here is your rundown of what to watch this November:
Paddington in Peru - 8th November
Starting with my absolute favourite on the list. I can’t even explain how excited I am to watch this! Paddington is one of those perfect films to snuggle up to and watch. This latest instalment to the series will see some beloved faces return (Hugh Bonneville as Mr Brown, Julie Walters as Mrs Bird) as well as the introduction of some new characters (Olivia Colman as The Reverend Mother). With the crew taking on a new adventure in Peru, this new film is set to be an exciting addition to the already much loved series. Ben Whishaw, voice actor for everyone’s favourite marmalade-loving bear, Paddington, said ‘there’s lots more of the same, and that’s nice!’ What a perfect way to sell this film!
Gladiator 2 - 15th November
Not the most natural progression from Paddington in Peru, but the highly-anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 hit, Gladiator, is one for any action lovers to add to their list. Whether you come to the cinema to watch Gladiator II for the action or for Paul Mescal, this film is sure to be an exciting watch. Although the official release is still yet to come, the film was shown at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles on October 18th to positive reviews. Particular praise has been given to Ridley Scott’s direction and Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington’s acting.
Wicked - 22nd November
Although not a sequel as such like the other films on this list, Wicked sees well-loved characters from the hit stage musical take to the screen to bring the story of Glinda and Elphaba to a wider audience. The film, which began filming in 2021, is already highly anticipated by theatre kids, but will no doubt also leave even the most sceptical with a spring in their step! Clips of Cynthia Eviro and Ariana Grande’s breathtaking voices blending so seamlessly have gone viral, spreading the buzz. Wicked covers the action from the first act of the stage musical, with a sequel expected to be released in 2025, so there’s more to see from the Land of Oz yet!
Moana - 29th November
The final film on this list is a perfect film to watch with the family over Christmas. Moana, which premiered in 2016, was a huge box office success, and instantly became a much loved family classic. This second instalment kicks off three years after the action of the first film, and follows Moana as she journeys to the far seas to break a mysterious curse with her demi-god friend, Maui. With the first film producing Oscar-nominated song, How Far I’ll Go, we can only wait to see what new music is featured in the sequel.
All in all, this autumn truly is set to be an exciting time for cinephiles, as they watch some of their favourite characters return to the screen. What better way to prepare for the festive season and cosy times with friends and family!
